Why do Christians constantly look for ways to make Jewish history into Christian history?
Why can’t Jewish events remain strictly Jewish events?
Even events that were not listed in the Bible (Jewish or Christian Bible)… it just seems to me you always try to make a connection to Jesus.
You do know that not every Jewish event is related to Jesus, right?
That here ARE Jewish events that do not coincide in ANY way to Christians?
Perhaps you have a different reference point than the one I will attempt to make. “Genesis 1 1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” That is essentially the beginning of the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. Long prior to that, God the creator and Jesus the Son discussed the role that Jesus was to be asked to play to reconcile man back to God. This is discussed in the New Testament, which is the basic volume on the life of Jesus and the resulting church his teachings spawned.
Now back to the Old Testament. This volume of books tell the beginning of the earth, and of man. It introduces the cause of sin entering paradise, man being damned forever with the nature of sin and kicked out of the Garden of Eden. Over the next 4000 years God develops a relationship with a people, the Israelite. Drastic events occur during this ordeal for God will not by self control force the people to honor him but he will treat them as his children and demand obedience. Attempting to keep them pure physically and spiritually was part of the most gruesome events of this volume, the love of these people, God protection of them, his discipline of them yet during this whole time, through God’s prophets did he tell the people of a messenger who would come in his name. A messiah who would bring about a new kingdom. Often when God was angry with the Israelite he would admonish them but it really came to a head in the book of Malachi, in which he told them that not only would he send his messenger to straighten them out but he would also throw open the gates so that men of all races would have access to him.
This is exactly what he did 450 years later(more or less) when Jesus was born. While on the cross of death, the curtain of the temple to the holy of holys or where the Arc of the Covenant was contained was rend from top to bottom—signifying the path to God was now open to all men through Jesus.
The Jews rejected the messenger and pushed until they crucified him. Still Jesus presented to them the same God presented to the world or the Gentiles. God the Creator, the God of the chosen one’s or chosen people the Israelite and the Father God of Jesus is the same God of the Christian. The path Jesus provides is open to all but only the Jews and Christian actually share the same God, therefore we share in parts the same history prior to Jesus. It is a story of events of how we got to be part of this whole wonderful occurrence of spiritual birth. We take nothing away from the Jews. Their refusal of accepting Jesus as the Messiah was as predictable as the end of the world will be, we just do not know when. So the Jewish history of the Old Testament is just as much the Christian’s history, at least in terms of how it arrived at our door step. That does not make us Jews, nor does it make Jews Christians. It diminishes neither.

‘And So We Came to Rome ‘: The Political Perspective of St Luke $35 It has often been suggested that Luke’s two volumes were written as an apology for Christianity, to demonstrate to the Roman authorities that the new faith was not a dangerous and subversive innovation, a threat to the Pax Romana and to Roman rule. This book reviews the development of the ‘traditional perspective’, then raises some questions, e.g. if Luke was writing an apologia pro ecclesia, why does he include so much material politically damaging to the Christian cause? Is it possible that the approach has been made from the wrong angle, that Luke was writing an apologia not pro ecclesia but pro imperio, to assure his fellow Christians that Church and Empire need not fear or suspect each other? This conclusion is then supported by an investigation of the text of Luke-Acts, particularly the trials of Jesus and Paul. This challenging volume will be of interest to students and scholars of the New Testament and to ecclesiastical and Roman historians. |
